Alpha-Lipoic acid (ALA) is an effective antioxidant that can access all parts of living cells, giving it the ability to trap free radicals and protect against oxidation. ALA constitutes an equal proportion of the R-(natural) and S-(unnatural) enantiomers that are mirror images of each other, also called a ‘racemic’ mixture. Studies show that ALA has the ability to regenerate vitamin C, coenzyme Q10, glutathione, and vitamin E.
